Essay Topics For 8th Grade Students

Essay Topics For 8th Grade StudentsWhen you consider essay topics for 8th grade students, you will probably run into some resistance. You may be thinking about topics that the students can use in their AP courses and possibly in high school. But remember, a high school student's essay does not necessarily translate into an AP topic, nor does a high school student necessarily have the writing skills required to write an essay for AP tests. But what about high school students who excel at writing and know exactly what they want to say? How do you find topics for 8th grade students? Are there any easy ones? Here are some suggestions to get you started.First, you might want to think about what students want to talk about in terms of topics for the year. If your classroom is full of students with a broad range of interests, one of the easiest topics to come up with is one that relates to that general topic. For example, if you teach History, a general topic for your class would be World Wa r II. But if you have students who want to talk about the war from many different perspectives, such as the American experience or the Allied side, you may want to make sure that you give them topics that relate to each side.Second, you may want to think about AP subject or category limits. If your class uses AP exams, there are generally some topics that are off limits, or at least where the topics are too broad to allow for interpretation. You may want to think about breaking down topics into two categories: general and academic. So, for example, if you teach English, you might think about broadening the topic by giving students three topics that they could write about: American life, United States history, and political science. Or, if you teach math, you could consider broadening the topic further by including subjects like geometry, statistics, and calculus. It's really up to you.Third, the topic could be about either the era in which it was written or the overall topic. One of the best examples of this is 'What is my impact on the world?' In this instance, you may want to narrow down the topics to some of the topics mentioned in the phrase, 'My impact on the world.'Now, the hard question - which topic should you choose? Most likely, it will be something in the general area. If you are working with AP students, make sure that you are in a setting where they are comfortable and at ease with the topic. As I mentioned before, this is only an essential point to remember, but it is an important one. Consider this, even if you teach English, there are two topics that you can discuss in your classes: one that applies to all students (American life) and one that apply to certain students (American life). So, you don't have to limit yourself to the topics that are around the AP subjects.
